Sectoral data ecosystems and industrial data spaces are characterised by secure, sovereign and interoperable inter-organisational collaboration for data sharing and exploitation. They are based on the creation of federated digital infrastructures that enable companies, from SMEs to market leaders, to support the transformation of raw data into strategic assets that drive innovation and operational efficiency.
This working group aims to increase the digital maturity of national industry, enabling organisations to extract and create value from this data economy through an assessment that recognises their needs and objectives.
This working group aims to promote:
• the sharing of expertise in the area of Data Spaces and the dissemination of ongoing projects and initiatives,
• partnerships and use cases that demonstrate the practical application of data sharing and consumption technologies,
• the organisation of and participation in events, conferences and workshops to stimulate the industrial and academic community,
• the establishment of Data Spaces in multiple sectors,
• the establishment of interoperability initiatives between stores and domains and links to other working groups, such as the Gaia-X Industry working group.
These ecosystems represent a critical opportunity for the economic development of the industry, but they require in-depth planning and investment in assessing and increasing digital maturity. Without information management, data management, and governance processes, companies, especially SMEs, face challenges and barriers in the current industrial paradigm, compromising the development of competitive and innovative products and services. The applicability and efficiency of data spaces is not limited to technical elements alone, but is governed by the complementarity between technical, business and governance elements. Through its multidisciplinary collaboration, this working group integrates knowledge of the various dimensions that are essential to initiate the process of instantiating data spaces and ecosystems, ensuring that the technology serves the needs of companies in the sector.
