Altice Labs has registered its fifth patent in the current year 2024

The telecommunications "giant" secured, in July 2024, its fifth registered patent of the year, this time through the National Institute of Industrial Property. This refers to a software component that the innovation arm of the owner of MEO is already using and may come to market.

The goal is to better manage computing resources in different processing systems and avoid overloads.

The invention is a software component that allows for the dynamic distribution and adaptation of load limits. It can be applied to the various individual interfaces for receiving service events from a data processing system, such as in an Online Billing System.

There are two main focuses of this component:

  • To prevent overloading of the system in which it is inserted, the software ensures that the total processing capacity of that system is not exceeded.
  • Contribute to the effective use of all available capacity by redistributing excess capacity across all interfaces that may need it.

The technology now patented by the innovation arm of the Altice group is already integrated into the Online Charging NGIN OCS 4G of AlticeLabs, as a solution to intelligently limit the requests that will be fulfilled or discarded in situations of system overload.

It is expected that soon it will also be possible to develop and integrate the tool into the system NGIN CCS 5G (5th Generation Converged Charging system) and in the 5G PCF (5th Generation Policy Control system).

The technology can also be applied in different contexts, such as:

  • Any distributed system that is supported on multi-server computing platforms with multiple order entry points.
  • Public cloud scenarios, where the need to control costs with the infrastructure used is great.

Altice Labs currently has 61 patent applications under evaluation, internationally and in the United States, with emphasis on technologies in the area of fiber optic networks.

For this year, it has planned an investment in innovation of 23 million euros and in the last five years it has invested 360 million euros in scientific and technological innovation.
