Europe Connected Workshop: From IPCEI-CIS Results to Deployment, 21 and 22 May – Vienna, Austria
The Important Project of Common European Interest on Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services (IPCEI-CIS) represents a major European investment in sovereign, secure and interoperable cloud and edge technologies, bringing together public and private funding from the European Union.
The project brings together 19 companies from 12 Member States to develop the first open, federated European cloud-to-edge data processing infrastructure. The aim is to enable new distributed processing capabilities, data-sharing tools and reliable services that support the digital and green transition, reducing dependence on non-European suppliers and promoting innovation in areas such as AI, smart industry and critical communications. The project mobilises over €1 billion in public funding and aims to unlock additional private investment, consolidating a more competitive and sovereign European technological base.
As the projects have moved from the initial development phase to implementation and the first concrete results, a crucial window of opportunity has opened for dissemination, replication and deployment beyond the participating Member States.
This workshop has been specifically designed to mark the transition from the development and testing phase of the IPCEI-CIS project to the involvement of the wider European community, particularly those countries not participating in the project.
If you are a company or SME looking to adopt, integrate or expand advanced cloud and edge solutions, this is a unique opportunity to engage directly with the teams behind them — well before these technologies reach the market. You will find concrete solutions to explore, developers to talk to, and practical, immediate avenues for collaboration.
For innovation intermediaries — clusters, digital innovation centres, industrial platforms and research and technology organisations — the workshop offers direct access to the results of the IPCEI-CIS, which could help drive adoption within their ecosystems. For public authorities and policy-makers, it is an opportunity to understand what is currently implementable, explore alignment with national strategies, and engage with future participation mechanisms, such as the 8th Framework Programme.
Representatives of the IPCEI-CIS project and those responsible for the pilot projects will find a room full of motivated and qualified potential partners and users — stakeholders specifically involved because they are in a position to adopt, replicate or develop what the IPCEI-CIS has created. The outreach campaign focuses on stakeholders in Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Portugal, Malta and Cyprus.
On behalf of Portugal, the TICE.PT Cluster has taken on the role of co-organiser and partner for the event, with a view to raising awareness and mobilising the national ecosystem for this important initiative, at a time when issues of European sovereignty are increasingly a matter of survival for the bloc.
