Prof. José Epifânio da Franca visited the TICE.PT

As part of the strengthening of semiconductors as a key ecosystem integrated within the electronics dimension in the TICE.PT Cluster, on March 12th we received a visit from Prof. José Epifânio da Franca. We had the opportunity to talk about the challenges of this sector, highlighting the important aspect of the strategy of training specialized resources in an area that has always been strategic but has taken on even greater importance in light of recent geo-strategic changes. In this context, Portugal can come to occupy a relevant position as long as it manages to train human resources in sufficient quantity and in a timely manner.

With a vast professional trajectory, Prof. José Epifânio da Franca will always be linked to the creation of Chipidea Microelectronica S.A. in 1997, the first Portuguese company dedicated to the design of integrated circuits (analog and mixed signal IP). Sold in 2007, this company became part of Synopsys, Inc. world leader in semiconductor design tools and services. Another common point in several national SMEs in the Chip Design area is that they were created by specialists who began their professional career at Chipidea.
